Abstract:
Many studies showed the therapeutic effect of light on physiological processes. Light and colour is known to be successful in therapy of psychological disorder, like the seasonal depression. Until now there are no data about coloured light and its influence on the heart rate variability (HRV).
We investigated the HRV for 30 min. during exposure of red and blue light on 21 healthy humans.
Our results showed a significant arise of the SDNN during blue-light exposure. During red-light exposure we could find a decrease of SDNN. This oposed effect was highly significant (p=0,002).
Also the respiratory frequency was elevated under red light exposure. Maybe the red light has an activating effect on the respiratory regulation.
