Weniger im Fokus steht jedoch, dass in Knochen viele Informationen über ihre Besitzer und deren Lebensumstände noch weit über den Tod hinaus bewahren werden können. Der Aufgabe diese Hinweise zu erschließen und den Wesen hinter den Knochen wieder eine Gestalt zu geben widmet sich das Fach der Osteologie mit seinen vielfältigen und interdisziplinären Themengebieten. Als Anthropologe beim Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und als Professor an der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen hat Prof. Dr. Joachim Wahl sein Leben der Osteologie und seinen vielen Facetten gewidmet. Um seine Arbeit zu würdigen und Ihm zu Ehren wurde dieser Band zusammengestellt. Less in focus, however, is the fact that in bones much information about their owners and their living conditions can be preserved far beyond death. The subject of osteology, with its diverse and interdisciplinary topics, is dedicated to the task of unlocking these clues and giving shape to the beings behind the bones. As an anthropologist at the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and as a professor at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Prof. Dr. Joachim Wahl has dedicated his life to osteology and its many facets. All inhumations date into the late phase of the Early Neolithic Linear Pottery Culture. A small burial site made up of seven of these burials was located next to the contemporaneous settlement area and is outstanding because of the particularly rich grave goods. In the settlement area itself, three pits with burials were documented. Feature 61 with the remains of nine adult individuals is exceptional in so far as four individuals had been subject to the same ritual. The dead had obviously been deliberately killed, their skulls were opened and skull-cups were manufactured which were finally deposited in the pit together with other skeletal remains. Carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes were typical for a mixed diet at that time. Apatite 87Sr/86Sr isotopic ratios revealed several immigrants to the site, especially with regard to feature 61. Thu, 01 Jun 2023 00:00:00 GMT http://hdl.handle.net/10900/125501 2023-06-01T00:00:00Z http://hdl.handle.net/10900/125500 Jenseits der Forschungsmythen — ein neuer Blick auf die Bestattungen der Nekropole von Varna I Zäuner, Steven Jahrzehntelang fußte die archäologische Interpretation der chalkolithischen Nekropole von Varna I fast ausschließlich auf den Beigaben, die den Verstorbenen mitgegeben wurden. Verschiedene Umstände führten dazu, dass den menschlichen Überresten des Gräberfeldes relativ wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wurde—mit einer Ausnahme: dem Individuum aus Grab 43. In den letzten Jahren wurden weitergehende anthropologische Untersuchungen an den Skelettresten der Nekropole durchgeführt und neue archäologische Ansätze verfolgt. In diesem Beitrag werden aktuelle archäologische und anthropologische Ergebnisse besprochen, sowie ihre möglichen Auswirkungen auf einige archäologische Theorien und Forschungsmythen. Die detaillierte anthropologische Auswertung des Gräberfeldes ist Bestandteil einer bevorstehenden Monographie über die Fundstelle.
